Empty waste tank

How to empty your waste tank

Before resetting your waste tank counter using the WIC Reset Utilities and the WIC Reset Key, you should empty your printer’s waste tank to avoid the tank overflowing and thus contaminating your printer and its surroundings.

Using the example of an Epson ET-2720, we will explain to you how you can remove and empty the waste tank from your printer.

Preparations

To remove the waste tank, you will need a Phillips screwdriver, a slotted screwdriver from a watchmaker’s set or a comparable tool, as well as some kitchen roll paper.

Turn off your printer and disconnect the power and (if connected) USB cable from the printer.

Place your printer on a sufficiently large surface and make sure to put some kitchen roll paper under the printer to avoid stains on the table if ink leaks.

Opening and removing the waste tank

The waste ink container on the Epson ET2720 and comparable models is located in the rear right corner of the printer. You can easily access the waste tank by removing the cover screw as shown in the picture.

Now continue to remove the bottom screw on the waste tank so that you can remove the actual container from the printer.

The waste tank is clipped into the cover. Use the slotted screwdriver from your watchmaking set and insert it into the side of the guide to unclip the clip. Please be careful when unclipping the Waste Tank to avoid damaging the container. Use kitchen roll paper to wipe away any ink spills.

Once you have removed the container, you will see the so-called waste ink pads. Now you have to wash them out or replace them. After you have washed the waste ink pads or sponges, set them aside to dry.

You can also do without the waste ink pads entirely, but then you have to keep an eye on the fill level of your container, as the sponges absorb ink accordingly and thus increase the capacity of the tank.

The waste tank is installed in the reverse order.
